BIO Mikki Bakken is a seasoned performer comfortable in front of 4000 audience members, a roadhouse or a coffeehouse crowd.  Her powerful voice wraps itself around sensitive love songs ala James Taylor & Aretha Franklin, then switch into high gear with road house rock ala Coco Taylor, Joan Osborne and Janis Joplin.   History She began her professional career as a songwriter in 1990 while in the Acoustic Rock Duo Smith & Bakken.  They worked together until 1994, when Lisa went to Nashville towork for Vicotria Shaw, and Mikki had to learn how to play guitar. ( Mikki was formerly a percussionist who knew about 3 chords ) In 1995, Mikki started playing again and played Boston, New Hampshire and New York on a regular basis.  She perfected her solo act and began to play well with others again. She has worked with some wonderful musicians like Pete Pashoukos, Rick Bolton & the Dwyer Sisters, Torey Adler, Tony Markellis,   Dale Haskell, and most recently Brian Gibney.   Now in 2005 she is a well known player in the Saratoga, Glens Falls, and Lake George regional scene and is looking forward to a busy 2006 season.  Her schedule can be seen at www.mikkibakken.com along with playable audio files.   She has had the pleasure of sharing the stage / television shows with such greats as: KD Lang- 10,000 Maniacs-Asleep at the Wheel-David Bromberg- Rory Block- Freedy Johnson Joan Osborne- The Band- Maria Muldaur- Melanie- Exile- ( Les Taylor )  - Commander Cody - Cheryl Wheeler - Ani Di Franco - Melissa Etheridge - Bonnie Raitt - She has worked side by side with musicians and band members from : Joe Jackson Band - Trey Anistasio Band - Wynston Marsallis Band - Bonnie Raitt Band - Shania Twain Band - Robin and Linda Williams Band - Mikki has extensive songwriting credits and can be found on Smith& Bakken's CD " Feel So Alive " as well as on Ben Murray and Siobahn Quinn's " Two Rivers " release.  She has lent her vocal chords to several local and national music and film projects such as: Evil Twin -  Michael Jerling Caffe Lena - PBS and BBC w/ David Bromberg Matterbabies - Matterbabies Daughters of Music - PBS w/ Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, Rory Block and others Mikki has a SAG card from her commercial for the New York State Lottery " Win For Life" commercial in 1995.
